We published a total of nine reports on subjects as diverse as antimicrobial treatment of Sepsis and Academic dishonesty for online exams. We put out more than 20 statements and views on subjects including the War in Ukraine and the Death of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Academy began some important work on equality, diversity and inclusion by conducting an audit of our committees. We recognise there is more to be done on this, with work evolving over time. And of course, reviews can take a lot of time too, this year has been no exception with the Fuller Review, the SAC best practice review with COPMeD on behalf of the SEBs to get a more consistent approach to ways of working. We contributed fully to the Health and Care Committee Inquiry on Workforce and work on the gender pay gap and a new national CEA scheme.
As ever it’s been busy busy busy.

In relation to all the reasonable adjustments work the AAC has also carried out a survey to explore which colleges allow nullification of failed exam attempts following a late diagnosis requiring a reasonable adjustment. Currently there’s a wide variety of approach between specialties and there is ongoing discussion to try and improve consistency.
The Academy has also worked with COPMeD to produce Best Practice for Specialty Advisory Committees. Following a full review, the report sets out practical principles for best practice in the operation of SACs.
The Academy Professional Development Committee has worked hard across the four nations to produce the latest version of the Medical Appraisal Guide in June 2022. Our lead on this Susi Caesar has written a piece about it.
