Genomics

Work on embedding genomic medicine within the NHS in England continues at pace. The vision is to enable the NHS to harness the power of genomic technology and science to improve the health of the population and deliver on the commitments in the NHS Long Term Plan.

With NHS England, the Academy co-hosts a group of multi-professional, multi-specialty clinicians in this field, called the Genomics Professional Partnerships Group. Together with members from the devolved nations and the clinical directors of each of the seven NHS Genomic Medicine Services Alliances, the group brings together clinical voices of genomics leaders and experts from across the whole NHS landscape to support, advise on, and integrate the safe implementation of genomic medicine and education across the UK.

This year we have welcomed two new genomics clinical education fellows, Dr Melody Redman and Dr Jessica Woods. Funded by the Health Education England Genomics Education Programme, Melody and Jess will be working with colleges and faculties to guide the inclusion of genomics in relevant curricula, promote engagement of colleges with the genomics programme, support genomics advisors, and increase the visibility of key genomic transformation projects being undertaken by the NHS Genomics Service.
